Holidays, Traveling, and Showing Off

Elisha Fields

The most fulfilling acceptance you will get is from yourself and not from others.

As the holiday season draws near, you're possibly thinking of visiting abroad. Interestingly i just read that Turkey is the most popular holiday destination for people in the UK. Turkey also happens to be the 6th most visited country in the world according to the UN World Tourism Organisation.

When it comes to traveling, I have found it to be one of my greatest pleasures. I find it great therapy, I love meeting new people and experiencing new things. I would definitely recommend it. Visiting another country can be life changing and if you're up for it, go for it.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about social networks and how people like to show off putting their photo albums up. For a long time now, there has been this trend on Facebook in which certain people are so into making photo albums of the different places they've been to. Recently though, I've realized how cringeworthy it is. Joe, for example, will make a photo album on Spain, a photo album on Brazil, a photo album on Scotland and so on. It's almost as if these people are just traveling for the sake of it. These people are probably sitting on the plane thinking, "I can't wait to get my camera out to take a picture of myself doing a star jump into the pool". This whole holiday thing seems to have got into a competition. It's like people are trying to reenact Around the World in 80 Days. Another way to put it is that it feels like a game of Monopoly except nobody is going to win anything at the end of it. By the way this is all said in jest and maybe I'll be a game player in the future.

I don't think it's healthy to document every part of your life. I've seen people post pictures up of half eaten pizzas or the like. I don't know what significant messages are supposed to be delivered from that? I do think people are feeling under pressure to keep up with others by showing off what they're constantly doing. I will say this though, on the other hand I do kind of have respect for people who are willing to document what they're doing each day. Sometimes I wish I had the desire to take part as well.

I will finish off with this note. The most fulfilling acceptance you will get is from yourself and not from others. We make our own happiness.
