I read somewhere that there could be amendments in Turkey's Law when it comes to the consumption of alcohol. At the moment as it stands, it is illegal for a worker to turn up to work drunk and alcohol is forbidden at work. However an amendment could see it becoming illegal for a worker to turn up to work having merely consumed alcohol as well as the substance still being banned from the premises. This means that a worker does not necessarily have to be drunk to be dismissed but could be dismissed for merely having consumed alcohol.
Many workers enjoy a chilled alcoholic beverage to relax during the stressful working day. For them, it may benefit them and allow them to become stress free and perhaps more productive. However as we know, one does not necessarily have to be drunk to experience the bad effects of what alcohol might do. From merely consuming alcohol, a worker could perhaps become disruptive and unproductive. However doesn't the ban take away a person's rights to decide what's best for them? Then again arguably not everyone knows what's necessarily best for them and a person might not know when too much alcohol is too much.
If we look at it from both sides, there are good arguments for and against the consumption of alcohol. Possibly there's a thin line between being drunk and merely consuming alcohol. Because such a thin line exists maybe that's a good enough reason why the consumption of alcohol should be forbidden when we know we've got to start work full stop.
I think it's difficult to assess whether someone is drunk or whether perhaps they're just happy, and it's an even harder job to assess whether someone's consumed alcohol or we're just suspecting. I would like to know how a boss would be fairly able to assess without making unfair dismissal and suspicions.
