18TH EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL and TOURISM EXHIBITION

CULTURE

The 18th Eastern Mediterranean International Travel and Tourism Exhibition, the fastest growing tourism expo in the region, and open to both the trade and public, will be held in Istanbul on 30 January 2 February 2014

With more than 4,500 exhibitors from over 70 countries, this exhibition will cover 65,000 square metres in 11 halls at Istanbul's TUYAP Buyukcekmece Exhibition Centre. Exhibitors will include travel agencies, tourism boards, tourism foundations, hotels, cruise liners and those specialising in business & incentive, health and eco-tourism and more. The 2013 exhibition hosted 131,020 visitors and this forthcoming event is expected to be just as popular.

Commenting on Turkey as a continually growing tourism destination, Ali Selcuk Can, director of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office in London, states "Ranking as the 6th in the world with respect to the number of international tourist arrivals and rising all the time, Turkey is the perfect location to host such an exhibition focusing exclusively on travel and tourism. The country boasts almost 3,000 hotels and a 1-million-bed capacity as well as over 6,500 travel agencies and 15 charter airlines."

Likewise Turkey itself has a healthy outgoing travel market with 12 million people having the same income level as the average European, 3.4 million of whom earn over £26,300 or more. Of those travelling most prefer cultural and shopping tours, spending an average of £600 a week, more than the average for European travellers. There are 3.5 million small and medium enterprise businesses active in the production and service markets in Turkey and whose management travel on business a minimum of four times a year.

The 18th EMITT is organised by the EKIN–TYD partnership and is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, TOBB, 6 chambers and 36 regional associations and foundations.
