Holiday Costs Barometer 2019

BUSINESS

Prices lower than 2018 in 75% of resorts surveyed

Algarve is the cheapest Eurozone destination
There are bargains for holidaymakers visiting some of the most popular European beach resorts this year, according to the annual Holiday Costs Barometer from Post Office Travel Money

Prices have fallen in most of the 20 destinations surveyed and by over 10 per cent in Limassol, the Algarve, Majorca and Sunny Beach, Bulgaria.

Key findings include:

Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach is the best value destination for the sixth consecutive year. Prices for the nine tourist items are at least a third cheaper than in any of the Eurozone destinations surveyed, making the Black Sea resort a great choice for bargain hunters
The Algarve is the cheapest of 16 Eurozone destination surveyed. With prices down by over 16 per cent, the Portuguese favourite is Sunny Beach’s closest competitor
Marmaris in Turkey is third cheapest in this year’s report and although local prices have risen, sterling’s surge in value against the Turkish lira means that barometer costs are down seven per cent on last year. Holidaymakers changing pounds into lira will also get over £100 extra on a £500 currency transaction.
Do your holiday homework and check prices before booking. Resort swapping to cheaper resorts within Spain, Portugal, Greece and Croatia could save you money.
