Gulcin Ozdemir elected as Labour councillor

Gulcin Ozdemir has been elected as Labour councillor for the St George’s ward following a by-election on 12 December.

The number of votes cast for the four candidates contesting the St George’s ward seat is as follows:  
 
Natasha Cox – Green Party – 2,501 
Marco Guilene – Women’s Equality Party – 268 
Gulcin Ozdemir – Labour Party – 2,918 
Helen Judith Redesdale – Liberal Democrats – 738 
 
There were 68 rejected ballots. 

6,493 of the 9,649 voters registered in St George’s ward took part - giving a voter turnout of 67.30 per cent.  The poll was called following a vacancy arising from the resignation of ward councillor Kat Fletcher. 
 
The council now comprises: 

46 Labour councillors 

1 Independent councillor 

1 Green Party councillor
