Girl Power

I can't think of an introduction and it's late as i write this so I'll get stuck straight in it. Just reading in the news that there is an impressive number of females working in high powered positions for Turkey's greatest organizations. In fact if we look at Turkey's biggest companies, 26% of the top executives are women. This astounding figure is higher than the EU's average. The EU are looking at ways of increasing female participation in high powered roles. Turkey should be pleased that they are doing a good job.

I think it's very hard for women to aim to be successful because the meaning of success is so ambiguous for us. Not only that but there is still a lot of discrimination happening. Whereas for guys success is a lot of the time looked at as having lots of money and being intelligent, for women it's usually down to looks. It seems as though guys have lots of male role models when it comes to businessmen. Ask anyone to name some female businesswomen and they'll be puzzled. Again ask people to name some business figures and the same names will crop up, for example, Richard Branson and Alan Sugar. When the public talk about successful women, they're usually thinking about models and pop stars who are known for their looks. I don't have to name names we know them!

Women have a lot of pressure put on them. It seems like there are different rules for men and women. Guys can get away with being messy, for example, but it seems like it's frowned upon more on women. We are constantly flooded by society and the media on how we should be. All I can say though is that we should lead our own own journeys and do what really makes us happy.
